Fireworks To See In The New Year

The London Eye is set to take centre stage as London counts down to 2012, with 250,000 visitors expected to enjoy the city’s spectacular fireworks display.

Boris Johnson said that the city’s glittering display is going to light up the sky to welcome 2012, probably the most remarkable and exciting year we will see in our lifetime in London. He said the capital will stage a tremendous Olympic and Paralympic Games, that will put the city in the international spotlight and inspire the long-term revitalization of east London and provide benefits for the whole of the city.

The display, which will also be viewed on television by millions across the globe, although there is a possibility of poor visibility as a result of fog and rain. Conditions are expected to be mild with a temperature of 15C.

Extra police will be attending, with 3,000 officers allocated to patrol on the night, with officers posted on podiums in order to identify potential troublemakers.
The spectating area will be closed as soon as it becomes full, to help guarantee the safety of revellers. Roads within London’s central zones will be closed from 4pm.
